The police recovered the hanging body of a student named Swapna Khatun (17) from Badalgachi, Naogaon. The incident took place in Mithapur Babupara village of Mithapur UP in the upazila between 1:00 and 2:00 am on Thursday (November 2). He was reportedly suffering from mental illness. The deceased Swapna is the daughter of Ashraful Islam of Mithapur Babupara village in Badalgachi and is a 1st year HSC student of Rajshahi College.

Local residents said that everyone fell asleep after eating with the family on Thursday night. On Friday (November 3) at 6 am on Friday (November 3), people gathered in the neighborhood as the family screamed to see Swapna hanging. On receiving the information, police SI Alim Sangeya came to the spot with the force and recovered the hanging body of the deceased. At 12 noon Mahadevpur Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Joybrat Pal and Badalgachi Police Station OC Atiyar Rahman visited the spot.

According to the family of the deceased, after eating dinner on Thursday, everyone went to sleep in their respective rooms. Two days before the incident, Rajshahi left the hostel in anger. Swapna was suffering from mental illness for a long time which was being treated as per doctor’s prescription.

Badalgachi police station OC Atiyar Rahman said that the deceased Swapna was a mental patient and came home from Rajshahi without informing anyone before the incident. As there was no complaint from the family, the condition of the deceased’s body was reported and the body was handed over to the family. A wrongful death case has been registered in this matter.
