Death toll rises to 32 in Iran drug treatment center fire

The death toll from a fire at a drug treatment center in northern Iran has risen to 32. Initial reports said 27 had died.

This information was reported by AFP quoting Iran’s local media ISNA news agency on Friday.

The deputy governor of northern Gilan province, Mohammad Jalai, said 32 people died in a fire at a drug treatment center in the town of Langarud.

Jalai also said that 16 more people were injured in this fire incident. The condition of four of the injured is critical.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Judge Sadeghi said that several persons including the manager of the center have already been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for this incident.

ISNA released video footage of the fire. There were flames and black smoke at the healing center.

The healing center suffered extensive damage in the fire. Emergency responders, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside the center after the fire was extinguished. As seen in the picture, the roof of the center is destroyed. The windows were shattered and the walls blackened by smoke.
