A coordinating team of inter-agency representatives visited multi-storied buildings in the Gulshan area as per the decision of the Urban Development Committee to reduce building accidents in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK). The inspection team was led by Mohammad Nasir Uddin, a member of Rajuk’s Development Control Department.

The inspection team conducted a spot inspection of a 14 storied commercial building constructed by a developer company at Plot No. 18 of CWS (A) Block adjacent to Gulshan Avenue Road. After the inspection, the representatives of various organizations and the members, directors and authorized officers of the Development Control Department of Rajuk expressed their respective views.

Gulshan Area Authorized Officer Imrul Hasan said that the building has been constructed according to the approved design from Rajuk and no structural and architectural design defects have been found here. He also instructed to lay emphasis on reducing the use of flammable materials in the construction of false ceilings and interior design inside the building to prevent fire accidents.

Senior Station Manager Syed Monirul Islam, representative of Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the building has proper fire safety measures and modern fire extinguishers, fire alarms, sprinklers, fire hydrants have been used to prevent fire accidents. At the same time, he suggested that the instructions containing the necessary instructions and emergency contact numbers should be placed in the building where everyone can easily see them.

Mohammad Nasir Uddin, a member of Rajuk’s development control department, said that in making Dhaka city a modern, livable and safe city, he called upon all building owners and developers to construct buildings in accordance with the rules of building construction and Rajuk’s rules. He requested the media to promote this type of building construction awareness program to reduce fire accidents.

During the inspection, representatives of Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DESCO, BSTI, Director of Development Control-1 and 2 of Rajuk, Authorized Officer of Gulshan area, Director of Zone-4 and concerned officials of Zone-4 were present.
