The police recovered the body of a businessman from Dhankhet of Haludia village of Mahishmara union of Madhupur upazila of Tangail. His name is Omar Ali (45). Members of the Alokdia police outpost recovered the body from the area under Madhupur police station at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday night, it was reported by phone from Dhaka to Madhupur police station that a man named Omar Ali had called National Emergency Service 999 saying that he was going to commit suicide. Later, Madhupur police station reported the matter to the nearby Alokdia police outpost.
Omar Ali is the son of late Ain Uddin alias Anu Sutar of Haludiya village. He was a pineapple trader by profession.

Md. Azhar told Ajker newspaper, ‘Yesterday Tuesday around three o’clock in the night, Madhupur Police Station was informed that a man named Omar Ali called National Emergency Service 999 and said that he would commit suicide by drinking poison. After receiving this news, we went to Omar Ali’s house and contacted Omar Ali from his wife’s number. He assured us that he would return shortly. His phone was found switched off after a few minutes. He was not found even after trying until dawn.’
Omar Ali’s wife Bulbuli Begum said, ‘Yesterday, Tuesday, at around 3 o’clock in the morning, my husband went out to pray Tahajjud in the mosque. After some time the police came and searched for him. Me, my children and neighbors did a lot of searching after his phone switched off shortly. Local residents found his dead body at Dhankhe, about one kilometer away, around 5:30 pm today.
When asked if there was any conflict with Omar Ali, Bulbuli Begum said that Omar Ali’s behavior was normal before he went to pray in the mosque.
Md. Azhar Ali also said that Omar Ali’s body was found in a field in Haludiya village on Wednesday night. The smell of poison was detected from his mouth. It is believed that he committed suicide. He said that his body will be handed over to his family after the legal process.
