The Bangladesh Awami League Baghaichhari Upazila branch has held a press briefing recommending the dismissal of Russel Chowdhury, Secretary of Publicity and Publication Affairs of Bangladesh Awami League Baghaichhari Upazila and former chairman of Amtali Union Parishad, from party activities for life.
Upazila Awami League Acting President Ali Hossain and General Secretary Gias Uddin Mamun addressed the press briefing at the party office of Baghaichhari Upazila Awami League at 5 pm on Wednesday (November 1).
Awami League General Secretary Ghiyas Uddin Mamun said in a press briefing that Baghaichhari Upazila Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Russell Chowdhury, Amtali Union Volunteer League President Billal Hossain and Amtali Union Chhatra League President Parvez Hossain have complained against Amtali Union Awami League leaders and activists for various misdeeds and violation of organizational discipline. More than 150 leaders and activists of Baghaichhari Upazila and Amtali Union Awami League held an exchange meeting with the Rangamati District Awami League on October 13 with the aim of permanently expelling them from the organization based on various complaints. Rangamati district Awami League president Dipankar Talukdar MP and general Mucha Matbar along with senior leaders assured to take organizational measures into consideration. In continuation of that, Baghaichhari Upazila Awami League held an emergency meeting yesterday on October 31 with the participation of Swachhasebak League, Chhatra League and senior leaders of the upazila at the party office of Baghaichhari Upazila Awami League. It was decided to recommend Russell Chowdhury, Billal Hossain and Parvez to the district Awami League for permanent dismissal. .
Ghiyas Uddin Mamun, in response to the question about the allegations against Russell Chowdhury, said that there are many allegations that Russell Chowdhury has sued and harassed many party leaders and activists using the title of the organization. The senior leaders of the party, especially Upazila Awami League General Secretary Ghiyas Uddin Mamun and Zilla Parishad Chairman Angsuiproo Chowdhury, have forged the seals and signatures and party pads of many. He also said that according to the constitution of the Awami League, the senior committee has the authority to expel the leader at any level for breaking party discipline.
In this regard, the Upazila Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary accused Rashel Chowdhury was asked about the charges brought against him, he said that some famous Awami League leaders and wood smugglers gang have organized false allegations. If the allegations are proved subject to investigation, I will take the decision of the District Awami League. Besides, I will talk to the senior leaders of the district and give details and hold a press conference.
Acting President of Upazila Awami League Ali Hossain said that Russell Chowdhury’s security was forfeited by choosing a boat in the last Union Parishad election. Due to his misdeeds in Amtali Union, the vote of Awami League was lost in Amtali Union. Earlier in 2017, Russell Chowdhury was expelled from the post of President of Amtali Union Awami League due to his involvement in immoral activities.
He also said that the copy of the decision of the upazila Awami League will be sent to the district Awami League tomorrow. I hope that the district Awami League will take a good decision soon.
In this regard, the Upazila Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary accused Rashel Chowdhury was asked about the charges brought against him, he said that some famous Awami League leaders and wood smugglers gang have organized false allegations.
