Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the second unit of the coal-based thermal power plant located at Rampal in Bagerhat. The two mega projects are slated to be inaugurated virtually on Wednesday (November 1) at 11 am.
Anwarul Azim, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL), said that the trial production of the second unit of Vidyut Kedra started on October 24. During this time 400 megawatts of electricity was produced.
He also said that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the newly constructed Mongla-Khulna railway line on Wednesday. During this time, the second unit of Rampal thermal power plant will be inaugurated virtually. After that, two units of the power plant will produce electricity regularly.
BIFPCL Managing Director Syed Akram Ullah said that the alliance project is a symbol of friendship and strong bond between Bangladesh and India. With the efforts of all the officials and experts working at home and abroad, we have been able to successfully complete the work of the second unit. The second unit was inaugurated virtually today.
Before this, the first unit of this power plant went into production on 17 December 2022. After several closures, the first unit of the center is currently operational. The power generation capacity of the two units is 1 thousand 320 megawatts.
