
Payra Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Golam Sadek, BN inspected the important components of the first terminal project of Payra Port from this morning. Meanwhile, he inspected the actual progress of the work of the under construction jetty, yard, CFS and other components of the port and urged the concerned officials and contractors to complete the project work quickly.
Payra directed the concerned departments and officials to take measures for speedy import of goods (vehicles, fertiliser, food grains etc.) through the service jetty of PABAK already constructed to increase the revenue of the port.
During the visit, Rear Admiral Golam Sadek, Chairman of Payra Port Authority, said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary decision to build Payra Port in Patuakhali, a once neglected coastal district, as part of the balanced development plan of all regions of the country, has been proven today.
The Port Chairman called upon all concerned to work with utmost professionalism in promoting Payra Port as an efficient, smart and green port. Apart from this, he gave various important suggestions on increasing the revenue of the port by prioritizing the provision of maximum service to the service receivers who come to the port.
Payra Port Member Administration & Finance – Commander M Rafiul Hassain, Member Engineering & Development – Commodore Rajeev Tripura, Member Harbor & Marine – Captain Zahid Hossain, Project Director DISF – Captain Moniruzzaman, Chief Hydrographer Commander Mahmudul Hasan Khan were present during the visit. , Harbor Master – Captain SM Sharifur Rahman, Project Director PPFT – Nasir Uddin, Deputy Director Traffic – Azizur Rahman along with project related officers.
It is to be noted that for the first time within 10 years of its inception, Payra Port of Patuakhali has now become a sea port with a draft depth of 10 and a half meters. After the approval of the Payra Port Ordinance in 2013, the operational activities of Payra Port started in 2016 by unloading goods from commercial ships to lighter ships at a depth of 7-8 meters. At present, after capital dredging, the depth of the port has been increased by 10 and a half meters, so large Panamax-shaped ships with a length of 225 meters and a width of 32 meters can directly enter the port with goods of 40,000 to 50,000 metric tons / 3,000 to 3,500 containers.
Meanwhile, after the announcement of the depth of 10 and a half meters of the 75 km long port through capital dredging, ships above 10 meters have started coming from different countries of the world. Within a week of the announcement on March 26, the 10.2-meter draft ‘Orna Hulia’, the flag ship of Marshall Islands, anchored in the port’s inner anchor with a cargo of 37,800 metric tons, 188 meters in length and 33 meters in width from Balikpapan port in Indonesia, carrying coal from Payaratap Vidut.
