The prize money of the tournament is equal to that of the inaugural edition of the championship. The prize money for the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 was $3.8 million. The Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team received $1.6 million in addition to the sparkling mess after their eight-wicket victory over India in the final in Southampton two years ago.
England will get $3.5 million as prize money
Each of the nine contestants in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle will receive a share of the $3.8 million prize pool. South Africa will earn $4.5 million by finishing third in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.
Test cricket does not feature aggressive batting. But England, after appointing Brendon McCullum as coach, have continued to bat aggressively in ways that are often overlooked. Despite losing the Ashes series 0–4, England finished in fourth place after a series of impressive performances later in the cycle. As a result they will receive $3.5 million.
Sri Lanka were in the race to reach the final before the series loss to New Zealand. They finished the campaign in fifth place. They will get $2 lakh as prize money. Last year’s champions New Zealand finished sixth in the cycle and were allocated $100,000. Seventh-ranked Pakistan, eighth-ranked West Indies and ninth-ranked Bangladesh will also get $100,000.
