Savar (Dhaka): Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 has arrested the life sentence accused in the case of kidnapping and murder of a teenager in Dhaka’s Dhamrai after 12 years from Savar.
RAB-4 confirmed the matter through a press release on Friday (May 26) morning.
He was arrested from Ulail area of Savar on Wednesday (May 25) night.
The detained Jinnat Ali (38) is a resident of Dhaka’s Dhamrai.
According to RAB, around 2009-10, a gang led by accused Jinnat Ali was involved in various criminal activities including extortion, robbery, kidnapping, rape, murder in different areas of Dhamrai. In 2010, they kidnapped a teenager named Danish (14) from Kashipur village of Kushura union of the upazila and demanded ransom. But the boy’s family could not pay the money. They reported the matter to the police.
RAB further informed that, on the other hand, after not getting the ransom money, the teenager was strangled by wrapping a towel around his neck and left the body. Police found the teenager’s body in an abandoned house. In this incident, the mother of the deceased, Shobha Akter filed a murder case in Dhamrai police station. Later the police station arrested the accused Jinnat along with several of his accomplices and sent them to the court. After serving 18 months in prison during the trial, the court granted him conditional bail. In 2022, the court sentenced Jinnat to life imprisonment for his involvement in kidnapping and murder in that case. Since then the accused went into hiding to avoid arrest. He used to make a living by working in garment factories and driving rickshaws in various areas of Dhaka, including Savar, under disguise.
Company Commander of RAB-4 CPC-2 Lieutenant Rakib Mahmood Khan said that Jinnat Ali was on the run after receiving life sentence in the case 12 years ago. He was arrested in a raid in Savar on Wednesday based on tip-off. He has been handed over to Dhamrai police station to be handed over to the concerned court.
