After the last Eid, the prices of all kinds of vegetables suddenly increased. Vegetables are being sold at higher prices since then. The prices of two-one vegetables have come down slightly from earlier but most of them have not come down. As a result, every buyer in the vegetable market has to stumble for the increased price. The sellers say that the price will decrease a little when new vegetables are available.
On Friday, it was seen that most of the vegetables are being sold at higher prices.
Barab is being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kg in the Friday market, Patal at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg, Eggplant at Tk 60 per kg, Radish at Tk 60 per kg, Gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kg, Radish at Tk 60 per kg, Cucumber at Tk 50 per kg. 60, crab 80 taka per kg, papaya 60 taka per kg, green chili 160 taka per kg, tomato 60 taka per kg, gourd 70 to 80 taka per piece, raw banana 40 taka per kg and sweet pumpkin 40 taka per kg. being sold
Touhidul Islam, a garment worker who came to market in Mohakhali market, said that there is no vegetable below Tk 60 in the market. Whatever is being priced is 60 rupees or more. If every vegetable costs so much, we common people cannot buy it. Today, the price of every vegetable is increasing for almost a month. If earlier I used to buy one kg of vegetables, now I buy half a kg for extra cost. But the market actually does not match.
Regarding the increase in the price of vegetables, Ahmed Ali, a vegetable seller in Malibagh market, said that a few days ago, bitter gourd, barbati, rinds, barbati were sold at Tk 100 per kg. Compared to that, their prices have decreased slightly. Basically, the price of vegetables is lower during winter, while it is a little higher at other times. But this time the price of vegetables is a little higher.
Akram Hossain, a vegetable seller in Lakepar market near Gulshan, said, “It is not that we are selling vegetables at high prices. All types of vegetables are being sold at higher prices in the wholesale market. There are three types of vegetables available in this caravan market one is good quality, then medium quality and lastly relatively poor quality. Those who buy quality goods at the same price sell them at the same price.
