Sunil Narine is not returning to T20 World Cup

The way Sunil Narine has been on fire for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL has raised many interesting questions. Will Narine play for West Indies in the T20 World Cup starting next June?

However, Narine answered the curious question of the fans. He has informed himself whether he will play in the short format World Cup in the West Indies jersey.

However, hearing Narine’s answer may upset many fans. Because, this Caribbean all-rounder, who scored the first century of his T20 career for Kolkata last week, said that he will no longer play in the national team jersey. Narine said that the door of T20 World Cup is closed for him.

On his return to the national team jersey, Narine said, “I am really happy that my performance recently has inspired many people to publicly express their desire to break their retirement and play in the next T20 World Cup.

I am happy with that decision (not to return to the national team). I never want to be disappointed. That door is now closed and I will support whoever takes the field for the West Indies in June,” added Narine.

“The boys who have worked hard over the last few months and deserve to show our great fans that they are capable of winning another title – I wish you all the best,” he added.

Last week, Narine played an excellent innings of 109 runs off 56 balls against Rajasthan Royals. However, Narine’s first career century was eclipsed by Jos Buttler who scored a counter-century to give Rajasthan victory.

Narine is the joint highest wicket-taker for Kolkata in the current season of IPL. He bowled at an average of 22.11 and took 9 wickets. Rovman Powell, the current captain of the West Indies T20 team, praised his excellent performance.

Narine retired from international cricket in November 2023. However, he has not played the West Indies jersey since 2019. And Narine has no desire to play for the national team.
