Bangladesh Cricket Board has given the team for the series against Sri Lanka. Spinner Alis Al Islam got a chance as a new face in that team. However, the coach of Comilla Victorians, Mohammad Salahuddin, raised questions about the selection in the Bangladesh team.

T20 World Cup ahead. There is an opportunity to prepare World Cup teams against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan using the BPL. But the team fielded against Sri Lanka lacks planning.

Five openers announced in the team! And three recognized middle order batsmen. That also counts Mahmudullah. If Mahmudullah drops to six, the openers will have to drop in the middle order. Again there is no batsman for seven. Meanwhile, yesterday, Zakir Ali played a role in winning the team by scoring 40 runs off 31 balls. So far in BPL, he has not reached double figures only once. Contributing to the team whenever he gets a chance. Regarding Zakir not getting a chance, coach Salahuddin said, maybe the board does not see this wicketkeeper because of ‘appearance’.

Salahuddin said in a press conference yesterday, using the example of Zakir, ‘you always forget about Zakir, but none of you actually ever ask. Maybe the boy’s face is a little dark, because of this I think the board doesn’t see him properly.’

The 25-year-old Zakir has played three T20 Internationals. But they are in the Asian Games, for the second-tier team. The main national team was then busy with the Asia Cup. There is no one to take the role of finisher in the Bangladesh team. Salahuddin still does not see the reason for not taking Zakir in the team, ‘You look for players at number 6, number 7. This boy has been playing very well since last few matches. If you look at his strike rate and every day he gives us runs at crucial moments and he is very sensible.’

Mahmudullah is in the squad, but in the absence of Shakib in the middle order, he may be played up top. In that case, the team may lack finishers. Salahuddin thinks Zakir is the best finisher in Bangladesh after Mahmudullah, ‘I think he is one of the best in Bangladesh for this position. If I see any boy after Mahmudullah Riyad, then I think this boy is the best. Because he is saving us every day, often bringing us to a better place. Very sensible batting. Not that he doesn’t have a shot. He can hit all round. Good in pace, good in spin. The record is also good. Such a boy should be given a chance.’
