The New Zealand series is knocking on the door. Bangladesh cricket team will enter the field two weeks after the failed World Cup mission. They will play the first Test of the series in Sylhet. Experienced opener Tamim Iqbal will not be seen in that series. Captain Shakib Al Hasan is also absent due to injury.

In the absence of a regular captain, the question naturally arises which cricketer will toss at Sylhet International Stadium on November 28?

BCB Director Tanveer Ahmed Titu addressed the media in Mirpur on Tuesday regarding the upcoming series as part of the ICC Test Championship. In response to a question about who will take charge in Shakib’s absence, Titu said that vice-captain Liton Das will handle the responsibility.

Titu said, ‘Since Shakib has an injury. We know he won’t play until he’s fully recovered. We currently have Liton Kumar Das as assistant captain, unless there is a new decision in the meantime, he will remain. If someone is new you will know that too. The details will be given at the time of announcement of the team.

Meanwhile, on the question of when the new pace bowling coach will arrive or whether someone has been confirmed or not, Titu said, ‘The pace bowling coach may also be an interim one. Since now a new coach is not possible immediately. You will also know who will be the pace bowling coach in the New Zealand series in 2-1 days.’

New Zealand has already announced a 15-member team for the Bangladesh tour. They will set foot in Dhaka with all the spin-dependent stars. Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra are in the team.
