He could not play in two matches in the World Cup. Even after seeing the remaining 7 matches he played, he did not think that Taskin Ahmed was one of the best pacers in the last two years, not just in Bangladesh, but in the world. He got only 5 wickets in 7 matches.
In the last two years, the pacers of Bangladesh have become the trust of the team. Taskin-Hasan Mahmud also showed that the pacers are taking all the opponent’s wickets in ODIs. But everyone remained in the shadows in the World Cup. While it is not yet known why others failed, Taskin gave his reasons. His old shoulder injury has returned.
The injury will not allow him to play in the Test series against New Zealand.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Taskin said, ‘I was playing with injuries, not getting the rhythm… the margin (between right and wrong) was small. All in all a tough tournament. I was in a lot of pain because I have a “tear” in my shoulder. Getting on with it.’
Taskin knows his lack of form has affected the performance of the rest, ‘If I don’t bowl ‘up to the mark’ it affects the team, I saw that. I will do better in the future. The key is rhythm. Pray that I stay fit. I’ll do well if I’m fit.’
Taskin is resting to do well, ‘I will not be able to play this series. There is nothing to do. Try to get back into the rhythm by rest and rehab. If this series is excluded, I hope to be able to play ODIs and T20Is in New Zealand.’
Bangladesh’s first Test at home against New Zealand starts on November 28, the next on December 6. After that, Bangladesh will play 3 ODIs and T20Is on the tour of New Zealand. The ODI series starts on December 17.
