The ICC Event Technical Committee has approved the application of Enamul Haque as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan in the Bangladesh team. Shakib will not be able to play in the World Cup due to a finger injury. The Bangladesh captain suffered a finger injury while playing an innings of 82 runs against Sri Lanka yesterday. The tear was later detected on an X-ray. Shakib is returning home this evening without playing one of the remaining matches of Bangladesh in the World Cup.

The BCB had informed the ICC that 30-year-old Enamul had been taken as Shakib’s replacement. He was then allowed to play by the Event Technical Committee of the governing body of cricket. Technical committee approval is required to include a substitute player in the squad. Today, the ICC website announced the approval of Enamul as a replacement.
Enamul has played 45 ODIs for Bangladesh. Scored 1258 runs with 3 centuries at an average of 29.95. Enamul will play the second World Cup with this. Before this, Enamul played 3 matches in 2015 World Cup. He was dismissed for 29 runs in 2 matches against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Enamul’s World Cup ended midway due to injury.

Bangladesh will face Australia in their last World Cup match on November 11. Mushfiqur will have to play the match without Shakib. The match is a life-and-death battle for Bangladesh to secure a place in the Champions Trophy.
