Grammy-winning musician and American rapper Cooley has died. His real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr. He was 59 years old at the time of his death.
Coolio was found unconscious in the bathroom of a friend’s home in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, said Coolio’s friend and longtime manager Jarez Posey, who confirmed his death. He died soon after. However, he did not immediately give any cause of death. News-AFP
Coolio began his rap career in California in the late 80s. But gained worldwide fame in 1995 when he released Gangsta’s Paradise for the soundtrack of the film Dangerous Minds.
He won Best Rap Solo Performance for the track at the following year’s Grammy Awards.
Stevie Wonder’s 1976 track Pastime Paradise became a worldwide hit. The song topped the pop charts in 16 countries. It even became the number one song on Billboard for 1995.
