A case has been filed against 1500 to 2000 unknown people, mentioning the names of 50 people in the incident of clash between BNP leaders and workers in Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur. On Friday (September 9) afternoon, SI Bulbul Ahmed of Gangachara police station filed the case as the plaintiff. Rangpur District Assistant Superintendent of Police (A Circle) Hossain Raihan confirmed the matter.
BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police over the incident of BNP taking out a protest march at Gangachara upazila headquarters on Thursday afternoon. More than half a hundred people including the OC were injured.
In this incident, 15 policemen including OC Salam and 4 journalists were injured. Among them, Upazila BNP President Wahiduzzaman Mabu, General Secretary Akhiruzzaman Shiron, Chhatra Dal Rangpur District General Secretary Sharif Newaz Joha, Organizing Secretary Nazim Uddin Liju were seriously injured.
According to police and BNP sources, protest marches were led by upazila BNP president Wahiduzzaman Mabu to protest against disappearances and murders, increase in prices of daily necessities, killing of BNP leaders and activists in various places of the country including Bhola and Narayanganj. The procession crossed the market at the junction of Old Sonali Bank of Upazila Sadar and assembled on the road in front of Takwa Mosque. During the rally, the police stopped it. A scuffle and scuffle started between the BNP and the police over this incident. At that time, when the BNP workers threw bricks and stones, the police fired hundreds of rounds of teargas and baton-charged them. At one point the police opened fire. After that, chases and clashes between BNP and police continued. In this, 15 policemen and 4 journalists were injured.
Meanwhile, the police arrested 4 BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders from the spot. They are BNP leader Mahbub Asif, Chhatra Dal leaders Sindid, Ayan and Nayan. Upazila BNP general secretary Amiruzzaman Milan said that the police arrested 4 BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and took them to the police station.
However, Gangachara Police Station OC Dulal said that some people have been detained for questioning. But he did not say the name.
Rangpur Additional Superintendent of Police (A Circle) Hossain Muhammad Raihan said, ‘BNP leaders and activists are trying to arrest some leaders by attacking them because they are spreading rumours. Later they attacked the police. A case has been filed by the police in this incident.
