Former caretaker government advisor, economist, historian, researcher and teacher. Akbar Ali Khan is buried in the Martyr Intellectual Cemetery in Mirpur.
He was buried there after 3pm on Friday.
He breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Thursday at 10 o’clock. Akbar Ali Khan. He was 78 years old. Akbar Ali Khan’s younger brother Kabir Uddin Khan said, quoting doctors, that Akbar Ali Khan died of a heart attack. Akbar Ali Khan fell seriously ill at home and was taken to hospital. Later doctors declared him dead.
Akbar Ali Khan’s body was taken from Evercare Hospital’s mortuary to his home in Gulshan in the capital on Friday morning. Relatives and dignitaries paid their respects there. Former secretary Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, former ACC chairman Golam Rahman, banker and economic analyst Mamun Rashid, poet and journalist Sohrab Hasan and others visited Akbar Ali Khan’s house in Gulshan.
After Friday, his funeral was performed at Azad Mosque in Gulshan in the capital. At the end of the funeral, he was given a guard of honor by the district administration in the mosque premises. The funeral was attended by Planning Minister MA Mannan, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam, Gonoshasthaya Kendra’s founding trustee Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, former chairman of NBR Badiur Rahman etc.
Akbar Ali Khan was born in 1944 in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria. He completed his studies in History at Dhaka University (DU) and did his PhD in Economics at Queen’s University in Canada. He also did PhD research in economics.
Akbar Ali Khan also taught along with the main course in his professional life as a bureaucrat. Retired as Cabinet Secretary. After that he taught in two universities.
Became an adviser to the caretaker government, later resigned in the face of obstruction in his duties. After retirement, he emerged as a full-time writer. His treatises on economics, history, sociology, literature and various other subjects are widely appreciated by the readers.
