Gazi Mazharul Anwar was born on February 22, 1943 in Taleshwar village of Daudkandi Upazila of Comilla. From 1964, he started writing songs for the then Radio Pakistan. So far the number of songs composed by him is more than 20 thousand. In his songs, liberation war, patriotism, nature, sense of life, love, hatred, affection, feelings have come up.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar wrote his first song ‘Bujhechi Moner Bane Rang Laga’ while studying in Medical College in 1962-63. The song was composed by Nazmul Huda Bachchu and artist was Farida Yasmin. He started his career as a professional lyricist in 1964 by earning 50 rupees by writing songs for Radio Pakistan.

After joining films in 1965, Gazi Mazharul Anwar started writing screenplays, songs, dialogues and stories. Since the birth of Bangladesh Television, his contribution has spread in every field.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar started writing film songs with the song ‘Akasher Hate Hai Ekrush Neel’ in Subhash Dutt’s film ‘Ayna O Zani’. He is also a successful storyteller, screenwriter and director. From his production company Desh Chitrakatha, he has produced and directed films such as Shashi, Swadhan, Samar, Shraddha, Hung, Snehe, Tapasya, Ulka, Amma, Paradhan, Artanad, Pashanan Prem, Yee Jee Duniya.
