Heatwave in West Bengal Heat wave may continue till Tuesday over West Bengal, temperature may reach to 42 degree celsius dgtl

The state is burning fiercely. At the end of the month of Baisakh, still Alipur Meteorological Department is not able to give a message of relief about Kalbaisakhi. Instead, the weather office predicted that the temperature mercury could climb higher. During the heat wave, the temperature in Kolkata may touch 42 degrees Celsius, Alipur said.

In the last 44 years, it has not been so hot in April in Kolkata. The maximum temperature in the city reached 41.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The last time Kolkata was so hot was in April 1980. That year the temperature in Kolkata reached 41.7 degrees Celsius. However, Kolkata can break that precedent on Sunday. Temperatures in Kolkata may reach 42 degrees on Sunday. Even after Sunday, these temperatures may persist for a few days.

A red alert has been issued in five districts of South Bengal on Friday and Saturday due to heat wave. Red alert has been issued in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, West Burdwan, Jhargram and Bankura districts. Heat wave is likely till Tuesday in other southern districts. Due to this, orange alert has also been issued in the districts. Along with the heat wave, hot and uncomfortable weather will also persist in all the southern districts.

The northern districts are also not spared from the intense burning of the month of Baisakh. While some areas of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri districts will receive light rain, the rest of the northern districts will witness dry weather accompanied by scorching heat. A red alert has been issued in North Dinajpur and Maldah districts on Friday due to heat wave.

Day temperatures may increase by one to three degrees Celsius across South Bengal in the next three days. After that, the same temperature will be maintained in Gangetic Bengal for two days. Skies will be mostly clear on Friday. There is no chance of rain in the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature in Kolkata on Friday was 29.6 degrees Celsius. Which is three degrees higher than normal. On Friday, the maximum temperature in Kolkata is likely to touch 41 degree Celsius.

West Midnapore’s Kalaikunda topped the list of highest temperatures in various parts of the state on Thursday. The maximum temperature was 44 degrees Celsius, 6.6 degrees above normal. Panagadh recorded the second highest temperature in the state. There, the mercury reached 43.2 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the maximum temperature in Suri too was 43 degrees Celsius.
