The missiles are part of an earlier US aid package that arrived in Ukraine this month. Officials said it was not made public to maintain Ukraine’s operational security.
Ukraine has used these missiles at least once against Russian targets in occupied Crimea. More US military aid is on its way to Kiev.
The United States has approved a $61 billion military and economic aid package for Ukraine. More American weapons are expected to be sent to the country soon after President Joe Biden’s signature.
On Wednesday, the spokesperson of the US Department of State confirmed that missiles have already been secretly supplied to Ukraine. These missiles are the long-range version of the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
The United States previously supplied Ukraine with medium-range ATACMS. However, concerns about understanding with the military prevented any more powerful weapons from being delivered.
