Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CHUTE) are not leaving the hall. Earlier, the 151st emergency meeting of the Chuet Academic Council at noon on Thursday (April 25) announced the indefinite closure of Chuet and ordered students to vacate the hall by 5 pm and female students by 9 am on Friday.

After the announcement came at 3:30 pm, the students became furious. They started protesting again. Angry students set fire to two buses of Shah Amanat Paribahan. Locked the office of the vice-chancellor of the university.

Apart from this, the students blocked all the gates including the main entrance of Chuet in the afternoon. They did not let any teacher and staff out.

Meanwhile, the angry students held an impromptu press conference around 5 pm. The agitating students complained that electricity and water connections and WiFi have been cut off in the students’ hall.

The students protested and said that the announcement of Chuet closure should be withdrawn soon. He also demanded to restore electricity, water and WiFi connection.

A student named Afsar Uddin said, we have 10 points of demand. We will not leave the hall until these demands are met.

Chuet Student Welfare Director Prof. Rezaul Karim said that in the Chuet Academic Council meeting, the university has been closed indefinitely and all students have been asked to vacate the hall.

The 151st emergency meeting of the Council was held. All academic activities (including examinations) at undergraduate/post-graduate level of the university were decided to be suspended for an indefinite period.

Male students have been directed to vacate the hall by 5 pm on Thursday and 9 am on Friday morning for female students.

Earlier on Monday (April 22) at 4 pm, two Chuet students riding a motorcycle were killed by a bus in the area adjacent to Selina Quader Chowdhury College on Chittagong-Kaptai road of Rangunia upazila. Another student was injured.

The deceased in the accident are Shanto Saha, a 2020 batch student of Chuet Civil Engineering Department and Taufiq Hossain, a 2021 batch student of the same department. Shanta Saha is the son of Kajal Saha of Narsingdi Sadar. Taufiq Hossain is the son of Mohammad Delwar Hossain of Sudharam Upazila of Noakhali District.

Zakaria Himu was injured in this incident. He is a student of 2021 batch of civil engineering department. He is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital. After the death in the accident, the students started protesting.
