US President Joe Biden has signed the US Military Assistance Act for Ukraine. He signed the law on Wednesday (April 25). The law includes a $6.1 billion military aid package for Ukraine. But initially Ukraine will be supplied with $100 million worth of arms. The US president signed the law amid Russian aggression in the country and a shortage of military supplies for Ukrainian forces. British news agency Reuters reported this news.

“It will support America’s partners in defending themselves against threats to their sovereignty,” Biden said.

An initially approved flow of $1 billion in arms supplies to Ukraine is scheduled to begin within hours.

Last week, House Republican leaders passed a $9.5 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan and US partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Later on Saturday, the Senate also approved the bill. Most of this package will be spent on military aid.

There are total four bills under this package. The first bill earmarked $6.1 billion in funding for Ukraine. In the second, $2,600 million was committed to humanitarian aid for Israel and civilians in conflict zones around the world, and $812 million in the third for the Indo-Pacific region.

The House added a fourth bill to the package last week. The bill includes possible bans on the Chinese-controlled social media app TikTok, measures to hand over Russian assets seized in Ukraine, and new sanctions on Iran.
