Delwar Hossain Pasha, who was abducted for being a candidate for chairman in the upcoming Natore Singra Upazila Parishad election, has been elected unopposed as the upazila chairman. District Election and Returning Officer Abdul Latif Sheikh made this announcement on Tuesday (April 23) around noon.

Delwar Hossain got emotional when he got the news while lying on the bed of Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital.

District Election and Returning Officer Abdul Latif Sheikh said that Natore Sadar, Naldanga and Singra Upazila Parishad elections will be held on May 8. Symbols were allotted among the contending candidates on Tuesday.

In response to a question, he said that 5 candidates in Sadar Upazila of Natore and 9 candidates in Naldanga Upazila are competing for the post of Upazila Chairman. And in Singra upazila, Delwar Hossain was elected unopposed as chairman.

When asked about this, Delwar Hossain’s brother Ebadul Hossain said that he was at the election office when the results were announced. He immediately told Delwar over the phone.

Meanwhile, soon after the news of Delwar Hossain’s unopposed election came to light, there was a storm of discussion on Facebook.

Singra Kalam Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Mainul Haque Chunnu said that God himself has honored Delwar.
