Bangladeshi ship ‘MV Abdullah’ and 23 sailors held hostage by Somali pirates for more than a month have been released recently.

After that, the ship is scheduled to leave Dubai port for Bangladesh. MV Abdullah is owned by SR Shipping, a subsidiary of Chittagong’s Kabir Group.

Mehrul Karim, CEO of the company, said that the ship has crowded the jetty. We are talking to all sailors. They are healthy. Everyone is happy to overcome an uncertain situation and reach the destination safely, they are expressing joy.

He said, if any of the sailors want to travel or do marketing in Dubai with a shore pass, they can do that. Out of the 23 sailors of the ship, 21 will return home on this ship. Two have expressed interest in flying back from Dubai. Arrangements will be made to send them by flight. All the sailors are Bangladeshis.

Shahriar Jahan Rahat, the deputy managing director of KSRM Group, the owner of the ship, said that the ship was docked at the jetty of Al-Hamriya port at around 10:15 PM Bangladesh time on Monday. Officials of Bangladesh Embassy and KSRM Group officials assigned to the Emirates were present at the port jetty when the ship was launched. Bulk carrier MV Abdullah carrying 55,000 tons of coal from Maputo port in Mozambique was going to Al Hamria port in United Arab Emirates.

Incidentally, on March 12, it fell into the hands of pirates in the Indian Ocean, 600 nautical miles from Mogadishu, Somalia. The pirates took control of the ship and took it to the coast of Somalia at gunpoint. After 32 days on April 14, Somali pirates released the ship and its 23 sailors. MV Abdullah with 23 sailors was freed on the night of April 13 after being held hostage for about 33 days. After that, the ship left for the Al-Hamriya port in the United Arab Emirates, 1,450 nautical miles away. After covering this distance in 9 days, the ship reached the port of Al-Hamriya in the Emirates.
