Meherpur: A very intense heatwave has been blowing across Meherpur district for the past one week. The highest temperature recorded in the district was 43 degrees.

The temperature is rising above 42 to 43 degrees Celsius every day. As a result, the number of patients in hospitals in Meherpur is increasing every day in severe heat.

Especially children and elderly people are getting sick more. Children are suffering from various diseases including abdominal pain, cold fever, cough, cold, diarrhea, pneumonia, dehydration, breathing difficulties, heat stroke patients are increasing. There is a shortage of beds due to increased patient pressure.

On Monday (April 23), Meherpur 250-bed General Hospital, Gangni and Mujibnagar Upazila Health Complex were visited and patients were seen lying on the floor without getting a bed.

As there is not much difference between day and night temperature, people’s life is disrupted. Not only humans, but also animals are in a state of suffocation. Doctors advise to consume plenty of pure water and liquid food to stay healthy this summer. Besides, experts are also prohibiting going out of the house without necessity.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Meherpur 250 bedded General Hospital Doctor Sajjad said that 1313 patients were admitted to the hospital in the last one week. Among them 223 patients with diarrhea were admitted. Already 210 people have returned home with clearance. 450 women received treatment in medicine and gynecology department. 240 people have been admitted to the children’s ward. 155 children returned home with clearance. Besides, 10 people have been referred elsewhere for better treatment and the rest are being treated in the hospital. 350 patients were admitted in male department. 311 patients returned home after treatment. Besides, six patients died. Besides, 50 people were admitted to the surgery department.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Gangni Upazila Health Complex Doctor Abdullah Maruf said that 352 patients were admitted to this health complex in a week. Among them 112 children, 146 women and 94 men. Most of these admitted patients have returned home after treatment. Elderly and children are the majority of patients.

Ahsan Habib, a doctor working in the emergency department of Mujibnagar Upazila Health Complex, said that 80 patients have been admitted to this Upazila Health Complex in the last one week. Most of them are children and elderly patients.

Meherpur 250-bed general hospital supervisor Dr. Zamir Mohammad Hasibus Sattar said on mobile phone that the pressure of patients in the hospital has increased with the increase in heat. Doctors are working to provide medical care to patients. There is no shortage of essential medicines even if there is a bed problem.

Jaminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Office, said that intense heat has been flowing over Chuadanga for the past few days. Now it has turned into a very intense fever. The maximum temperature recorded this season is 42.4 degrees Celsius. There is no chance of rain in this region for now.
