Virat Kohli No Ball Controversy: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been performing poorly in the IPL. RCB lost by 1 run to Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 21). With this, RCB lost 6 times in a row in this year’s IPL. They are at the bottom of the points table.

Question about Kohli’s out
Controversy over Virat Kohli’s dismissal in yesterday’s match. In the third over, Harshit Rana’s first ball was a full toss. That’s why Kohli bats. The timing of the shot is average and the ball goes to Harshit’s hands. Kohli was almost certain that the ball was above his waist. So he took DRS. The third umpire, with the help of Hawk-Eye, saw that Kohli was ahead of the crease but the ball was going inside. So he decided to get out. Kohli was seen talking to the umpire again while returning to the pavilion.

The third umpire’s decision on Virat Kohli was correct according to the rules. According to Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) rule 41.7.1, ‘Any ball which passes directly above the waist height of the batsman standing at the crease without hitting the ground is considered a no ball. In such a situation, the umpire declared it a no-ball. But in Kohli’s dismissal, he stood outside his crease. Meanwhile, the camera account says that even if the ball was fouled at the time, the ball would have gone below his waist had it not been intercepted. He was far ahead.

The third umpire uses Hawk-eye to make decisions. When the ball hit Kohli, he was standing outside the crease. Had Kohli stood in a normal position at the popping crease, his waist height would have been 1.04 metres. However, coming out of the crease, the ball was above his waist. If the same ball had reached the popping crease, its height would have dropped to 0.92 m. That is, if Kohli had stayed inside the crease, the ball would have been below his waist.

On the other hand, former Team India cricketers Navjot Singh Sidhu and Wasim Zafar are in favor of this rule change. Sidhu said, ‘Righteous justice means milk and panika pani. I sympathize with both Virat and RCB.’

Zafar told ESPN Cricinfo, “The rules say that measurements are taken for popping creases. But if the batsman bats a little further and where the effect falls, that place should also be kept in mind. Because sometimes the wicket is slow and the batsman is ahead. In my opinion, we should also look at what the effect will be. If I were an umpire, I would have given not out.
