Dhaka: Observers from 12 countries want to come to observe the upcoming 12th Parliament elections. ‘

Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath gave this information in response to various questions from journalists at his office in the election building on Tuesday (November 21).

He said that foreign monitoring organizations had requested for extension of time. Their application recommendations were presented to the Commission. It was approved by the commission. In this regard, the application period for foreign observers and journalists has been extended till December 7.

Ashok Kumar said, so far, 12 countries have received applications for observers. As an organization, I have received applications from four organizations. They agreed to come to observe the upcoming National Assembly elections. Considering the number, it will be 30 to 32 people. However, this number may increase in the future. Among the four organizations, 11 from African Electoral, four from the South Asian Development Forum, five from the NDI and four from the European Union (EU) delegation reported coming to observe the election.

In response to a question, he said, I got a better response than in the past. Many people will come to observe our elections as individuals and organizations.

According to the schedule of the 12th Parliament elections, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is 30 November, the selection of nomination papers is from 1 to 4 December, the filing and disposal of appeals against the decision of the returning officer to the commission is from 6 to 15 December, and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is 17 December. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The election campaign will continue till 8 am on January 5. And the polling will be on January 7 (Sunday).
