60 garment factories are still closed in Ashulia, alert

Savar (Dhaka): Around 60 garment factories in Savar’s Ashulia are still closed due to workers’ unrest after rejecting the hike in minimum wages. Yesterday (Saturday) the number of closed factories in the region was more than hundred.

On Sunday (November 12) morning, eight to ten factory workers came to work and sat without working. General leave is given in some factories when many leave with attendance.

Around 10 am, it was seen that the garment factories on both sides of Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road Jamgara, Narshinghpur, Sixtala, Jirabo area of ​​Ashulia are closed. Workers have joined work in some factories.

Along with the police, BGB and RAB members are on alert to keep the law and order situation under control.

Ashulia Industrial Police-1 Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Sarwar Alam said that today around 60 factories are closed indefinitely in Ashulia. Hundreds of factories were closed yesterday. The authorities are opening the closed factories as the situation is normal. Hopefully, if the situation is normal, other factories will be opened soon.
