The Tigers left the country to play the World Cup with a glimmer of hope. Shakib Al Hasan-Nazmul Hossain Shantara may have left some message after defeating Sri Lanka in the warm-up match and Afghanistan in the first match. But as the days of the World Cup went by, the helplessness of Bangladesh was revealed. The World Cup ended with just two wins due to a string of failures.
The entire tournament was played mainly on batting wickets. The bowlers got extra pace and bounce from the pitch. And even if all the other countries could take advantage of it, Bangladesh could not make use of the pitch. Tigers also lost the most wickets in the World Cup due to short pitch and high pace. Nazmul Hossain Shantar has made a different request to the Cricket Board after realizing the situation.
After the match against Australia, Shanta told the BCB about a good wicket, ‘Of course (should be discussed). Everyone saw what we were in. The worse we batted, the worse the team is. The preparation was fine, the results did not come. I hope that when we try to play the white ball format, be it ODIs or T20Is, every wicket should be good and sporting.’
‘Then the bowlers will also understand how I can defend three hundred runs on a good wicket. I hope the cricket board must have thought about it. I hope such wickets will be given (in front)’ – added Shanta.
Shanto said in the press conference, ‘Look, we scored three hundred against such bowling. Had it not been for the two run outs or another big couple in the middle, I would have made 350 from there. But it’s also true, the better wickets we play… that practice is needed. But we know how to do 260. How can we do 300, if this habit is formed, it will be seen that we can do 330-350 regularly.’
