Sri Lanka’s poor form in the World Cup continues. The last match was no exception. Any team in Bengaluru made big runs but Sri Lanka were restricted to just 171 runs. Dashun Shankad’s hopes of going to the semi-finals were already over. A win against New Zealand would have favored Pakistan or Afghanistan.
Like the match against India, Sri Lanka attacked from the start but kept losing wickets. Kushal Perera’s innings of 51 runs could have increased if he had not been dismissed. But once again wrong shot selection put Sri Lanka in trouble. Opener Kushal Perera scored 51 off just 28 balls, including 9 fours and two sixes. Tikhshana remained unbeaten by scoring 38 runs off 91 balls. Whereas Dilshan Madushanka scored 19 runs off 48 balls with two fours. Trent Boult has dismissed the maximum three players for New Zealand. While Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner got two wickets each.
New Zealand got off to a great start and won four matches in a row. After that, the Kiwi team lost four matches in a row. Now to go to the semi-finals, New Zealand must win this match. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have already been knocked out of the race for the semi-finals.
