BNP has announced another 48-hour blockade program from next Sunday (November 12) at 6:00 am to Tuesday (November 14) at 6:00 am on a one-point demand for the resignation of the government.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced this in a virtual press conference on Thursday (November 9) afternoon.
Rizvi said that the total blockade program will be observed from 6 am on November 12 to 6 am on November 14. Ambulances, vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders and media vehicles will be exempted from the blockade.
Meanwhile, Rizvi claimed that in the last 24 hours, 365 BNP leaders and activists have been arrested across the country. 50 people were injured. And since October 28, 9,831 people have been arrested so far. A total of 12 activists including a journalist were killed.
Earlier, like-minded opposition parties including BNP announced a blockade from 6 am on Wednesday (8 November) to 6 am on Friday (10 November) demanding the resignation of the government, a neutral government during the election period and the release of prisoners including Khaleda Zia. The third phase of the 48-hour blockade they have called ends at 6 am tomorrow (Friday).
The opposition parties could not be very active in this blockade program. Therefore, like-minded opposition parties and alliances including BNP have decided to change the program.
An organizing secretary of BNP told Dhaka Post on the condition of anonymity that people will get frustrated if the blockade continues. Leaders and activists will also be disappointed. The activists are not able to stay at home. So it has been decided to hold a two-day strike with a break of two days.
Meanwhile, like the last 13 days, BNP’s Nayapaltan central office is locked on Thursday as well. At the gate of the office, there are various letters, including a letter from the Election Commission calling for dialogue. And like every day, the police are stationed on both sides of the party’s office.
