Seven members of a family were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG auto-rickshaw in Hathazari, Chittagong. Among them is a woman and her four children. The tragic incident happened on Tuesday afternoon. They were going to a function in an autorickshaw. Earlier on Monday around 12:30 pm, four people were killed in a three-way collision between a bus-pickup-CNG at Shikarikanda bypass of Mymensingh-Dhaka highway. 15 people were injured. Apart from this, 2 people including a businessman were killed in Madaripur, a madrasa student in Jessore’s Jhikargacha, a woman in Noakhali, a motorcycle driver in Gobindganj in Gaibandha and a youth in Jatrabari in Dhaka. Hathajari (Chittagong): According to eyewitnesses, fire service and highway police sources, at around 12:15 in the afternoon, a passenger bus (Chatt Metro-B 11-1808) was coming from the opposite direction along with another CNG autorickshaw (coming from Fatikchari) in Charia area of Chittagong-Khagrachari highway. Chittagong-Th 13-0818) clashed head on. The CNG auto-rickshaw was thrown and fell far away. And the passengers in the CNG crashed on the road. 7 people of the same family were killed on the spot.
They are Rita Das Prakash Maya (35), wife of Middle Eastern expatriate Narayan Das of Dhopapara area of Mohammadpur village of Chandanish Upazila, her four children respectively Srabanti Das (17), Dwip Das (5), Digant Das (5), Varsha Das ( 12), Rita’s Nanad Chinu Bala Das (50) and Bhasur’s son Biplab Das (27).
Besides, three pedestrians were seriously injured in the accident. They are Mohammadpur Dhopapara of Chandanish Upazila, Bappa Dash (28) son of Shashil Dash of Dulal Master Bari, Biplab Majumdar (24) and Noorjahan Begum (55) son of Nepal from Barmasia Baidyarhat area of Fatikchari. They were first treated at Hathazari Upazila Health Complex. Later, Bappa Das and Biplab Majumdar were sent to Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital.
Sunil Das, cousin of deceased Rita, said that Rita was going to her father’s house in Phatikchari from Chandanish upazila with her children and other family members. A month ago his Tagore Didi passed away. Today (Tuesday) was the Shraddha ceremony of Tagore Didi. So in the morning they reached Potiya Mazzartek area by CNG autorickshaw from their village house. From there hired a CNG autorickshaw to Nanupur area of Fatikchari. They met with an accident when they went to Hathazari in an autorickshaw. When the news of this tragic accident reached the area, a heartbreaking scene unfolded. The air became heavy with the cries of family and neighbors.
Some eyewitnesses said that the CNG autorickshaw going to Phatikchari overtook another vehicle and fell in front of the bus. Due to the high speed of the bus, it lost control and collided head-on with the CNG.
Nazirhat Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Adil Mahmud said, after receiving the news, he quickly reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Chamek Hospital morgue. The killer bus has been seized with the help of locals. But the bus driver escaped. The CNG auto rickshaw was twisted. Meanwhile, due to the accident, traffic on the highway was stopped for about an hour.
No one left for Narayan Das: Chandnaish representative said, Rita Das has no one else alive in her family except her husband. Swami Narayan Das migrated to Oman a year and a half ago to alleviate the poverty of the family. Currently in Oman. After the news of the death of seven people, a shadow of mourning has descended on the area.
Mymensingh: A three-way collision between a bus-pickup-CNG took place at Shikarikanda bypass of Mymensingh-Dhaka highway around 12:30 pm on Monday. Four people including the driver were killed. 15 people were injured. Eight of the injured have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Two of the victims have been identified, but the identity of the other two has not been found. One person identified as Saddam Hossain (60). He is a bus driver. His house is in Seedstore village of Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh. Another person killed is his associate. Rakib (32). The police filed a case as plaintiff in this incident.
Shah Kamal Akand, OC of Kotwali Model Police Station, said that a fast bus named Faiyaz and Taj from Dhaka to Sherpur hit a pickup van and a CNG while overtaking at Shikarikanda area adjacent to the bypass of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at around 12:30 pm. The pickup van overturned and the front of the bus twisted and stuck on the road divider. Two died on the spot. After receiving the information, local residents, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and rescued 15 seriously injured people while taking them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Two others died on the way. Traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was blocked for an hour due to the accident.
Talking to several injured passengers, it is known that the driver of the bus bound for Sherpur from Dhaka was driving recklessly after crossing Joydevpur intersection. The passengers got scared and repeatedly asked the driver to drive carefully, but the driver was driving at the same speed. The bus later rammed a pickup van while overtaking it in Shikarikanda bypass area of the city. The van overturned. Two died on the spot and two others died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Jhikargacha (Jesore): A student of class VIII named Zakaria Hossain (13) was killed in a road accident at Jhikargacha in Jessore. The accident took place on the Jessore-Benapole highway in front of Ghazir Dargah Faizabad Fazil Madrasa on Monday evening. Zakaria is the son of Rahmat Ali of Rajbaria Palashi village in neighboring Manirampur upazila.
Companyganj (Noakhali): A woman (45) was killed by a car in Sonapur-Chairman Ghat area of Dharmapur Union of Noakhali Sadar Upazila. The accident happened on the road in front of the air force camp early on Tuesday morning. The identity of the deceased is not known.
Some locals said that when they went out to pray Fajr in the morning, they saw the body of a woman lying on the road. When they reported the matter to the police station, the police recovered the body.
Tekerhat and Kalkini (Madaripur): An easybike passenger named Khokon Kundu (42) was killed when he was run over by a Sakura Transport bus in Madaripur’s Rajair. At this time, 3 more people were injured. The accident took place at a place called Kamaldi on Dhaka-Barisal highway around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. The deceased Khokon is the son of Ashutosh Kundu of Bajitpur village of Madaripur Sadar Upazila.
Police and some eyewitnesses said that the easybike was going to Rajair with passengers from Mustafapur. On the way, a Barisal-bound Sakura Transport bus from Dhaka hit the easy bike. Khokon died on the spot. 3 people were injured. They were taken to Rajoi Upazila Health Complex and sent to Dhaka for first aid treatment.
Besides, a businessman named Delwar Hossain Chowkidar (50) was killed in a collision between a goods truck and a motorcycle in Ramchandrapur village of Khaserhat area of Kalkini upazila of the district. Son of Nurul Chowkidar of Daser Jungle village of Ghosairhat upazila of Shariatpur district of Delwar. The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon.
Gaibandha: A tractor collided with a motorcycle at Mahimaganj, Gobindganj, Gaibandha on Tuesday afternoon. The motorcyclist was killed on the spot. The name of the deceased is Omar Farooq. One person was injured in this incident.
Dhaka: SI Hiraman Biswas of Jatrabari police station in Dhaka said that a young man was killed by a speeding vehicle at Jatrabari intersection around 5:30 am on Tuesday. Age will be approximately 27-28 years. His identity is unknown.
