Shakib Al Hasan scored big runs with the bat for the first time today (Monday) in the ongoing World Cup. The Tiger captain made a big contribution to win the team by scoring 82 runs off 65 balls against Sri Lanka. Earlier he also took 2 wickets with the ball. As a result, Shakib was also selected as the man of the match on the day of Bangladesh’s return to victory.
“They are two important players (Mendis and Samarawickrama),” said Shakib, who took his own wicket early in the prize-giving stage after losing 3 wickets to the Lankans. Getting those two wickets was big. There wasn’t really much for the bowlers here, but we bowled really well. The spinners have shown their mettle. Both the spinners bowled well.’
About the team’s bowlers, Shakib said, ‘Till the start of the World Cup, the fast bowlers bowled really well. However, they did not meet our expectations when they came here. But we knew we could fight, we had that mentality. We kept faith and we can come back.’
Returning to his run, Shakib said, ‘The boundary of the field helped. Short boundaries and the ball had a lot of pace. So I just used Pace. After I started I never looked back. (The best performance came a bit late) We could have been more consistent, which is definitely disappointing.’
The cricket world saw a match full of excitement. Angelo Mathews was ‘timed out’ for the first time in the history of international cricket. With this, the Lankan cricketers have sledged the Tiger batters throughout the second innings. Although Shakib did not say anything about it after the match. A second win in the World Cup is a bit of a relief for Bangladesh, who are in a losing streak. Because of the seven points in the table, their chances of playing in the Champions Trophy remained!
