New Delhi: Bangladesh cricket team won the dramatic match of World Cup (ODI World Cup 2023) at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing 280 runs, with 53 balls left, the Bengal side snatched victory by three wickets. Courtesy captain Shakib Al Hasan and young Turk Najmul Hossain Shanto. Even though both of them missed individual centuries, they gave Bangladesh victory with a partnership of 169 runs for the third wicket.
Dilshan Madhushanka started very well for Sri Lanka with the ball against Bangladesh. He sent back the two openers Tanzid Hasan and Liton Das for nine and 23 runs respectively. With these two wickets, he became the highest wicket-taker in the tournament so far. However, despite losing two wickets for 41 runs, Bangladesh did not panic. Shakib Al Hasan often becomes the savior of the team in difficult situations. The same picture can be seen even today.
The duo put Bangladesh past the 200-run mark in a blistering partnership and took a step closer to qualifying for the Champions Trophy. When it seemed that Shakib and Tanjeed would easily bring victory to the Bengal Tigers, Angelo Mathews dismissed Shakib for 82 runs in a dramatic manner. In this match, Mathews was given a timed out as Shakib appealed to everyone in the first innings. He became the first cricketer to be timed out. Mathews celebrated the wicket by pointing at the invisible clock after dismissing Shakib.
Of course, this is not the first time that dramatic moments have been seen in the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka match. Nazmul Islam’s Nagin dance in defeating Sri Lanka in 2018 and Chamika Karunaratne’s Nagin dance against Bangladesh in 2022 are still fresh in everyone’s mind. Then this incident happened in Mathews today. So there is nothing to be surprised about.
After dismissing Shakib, it was Mathews who dismissed Tanjeed for 90 runs before completing his century. After that, Sri Lanka came back to the match in a great way due to the failure of Bangladesh’s middle order. Mushfiqur Rahim (10), Mahmudullah (22) failed to score big runs. But in the end, Tauhid Hriday showed maturity and ensured the victory of Bangladesh.
