The death toll from the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck Nepal on Friday night has risen to 128. Another 100 people were injured. The country’s authorities have said that the death toll may increase. This information was reported in the live report of NDTV on Saturday (November 4).
According to reports, locals were seen trying to rescue those trapped in the rubble throughout the night. Several houses in the country were completely destroyed and damaged by the earthquake. Many people spent the night on the streets in fear.
Nepal’s Prime Minister Pusp Kamal expressed grief over the casualties. The Prime Minister’s Office of Nepal wrote on the social media X (formerly Twitter), expressing deep grief over the casualties and material damage caused by the earthquake that struck at 11:47 pm on Friday. Also deployed three security agencies to carry out rescue operations immediately.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was 42 km south of Jumla, Nepal. It is reported that the tremor was felt in different parts of Nepal for at least a minute.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s National Center for Seismology (NCS) said the epicenter was 10 km below the surface.
With this, the country has been hit by three strong earthquakes in the past one month.
