Dhaka: The court has granted six-day remand to BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and media cell convenor Zahir Uddin Swapan, who were arrested in the case filed in connection with the killing of a police constable in the clash surrounding BNP’s mass gathering.

On Friday (November 3), they were brought to the court and applied for a 10-day remand for the sake of proper investigation of the case.

Pro-BNP lawyers held a hearing seeking cancellation of their remand and bail. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki Al Farabi’s court granted them a six-day remand.

DB Police arrested Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury from a house in Gulshan around 1 pm on Thursday. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the convener of BNP’s media cell and former member of parliament Zahir Uddin Swapan was arrested from another house in Gulshan on Thursday evening.

The day after the BNP’s mass meeting, i.e. October 29, Sub-Inspector of Police Masuk Mia filed a murder case at Paltan Model Police Station in the capital. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was made the main accused in the case. 164 people including top leaders of BNP were accused in the case.
