69 prominent citizens of the country have given a statement demanding the release of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. They made this claim in a statement on Friday (November 3).

The nation today looks forward to establishing a democratic political society, the statement said. The current Prime Minister himself has spoken about his commitment in this regard. Demands to do so through national elections overseen by an independent government within the next three months are growing. At this very moment, it appears to the undersigned that the peaceful, impartial and participatory election process has been jeopardized by the arrest of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Claiming that Mirza Fakhrul is a firm believer in peaceful political activities, the commentators said that the role of Mirza Fakhrul is important and well-known for the peaceful conduct of political contests. The release of Mirza Fakhrul can play an important role in avoiding conflict in politics and bringing back the practice of democratic norms.

Prominent persons of the country expressed hope in the statement that by releasing Mirza Fakhrul immediately, the government will pave the way for a peaceful, impartial and participatory election.
