Pop star Justin Bieber has lost one side of his face, forcing the star to cancel some concerts this week. The 26-year-old star posted a video on her Instagram account stating that she has been diagnosed with Rammstein Hunt Syndrome.
“You see, I can’t move my eyelids,” he said, referring to his nearly two and a half million fans. “I can’t smile with one side of my face.
“The virus has invaded my ears and facial nerves, leaving my mouth numb,” Bieber said in the three-minute video.
What is Hum Syndrome?
Rammstein Hunt Syndrome is a neurological problem. This problem is caused by a virus like chickenpox. Symptoms include a red rash on or around the ear, which is very painful. Boils appear in the same place as well.
The Mayo Clinic, a reputed hospital in the United States, reports that the side of the mouth that is affected by this syndrome becomes numb. The patient with this syndrome has earache, tingling in the ear, inability to close the eyelids, and loss of taste in the mouth.
Patients suffer from eye pain, blurred vision due to inability to close the eyelids, says Mayo Clinic, usually people aged 60 or older with the syndrome.
Doctors say these symptoms are not usually permanent, but the syndrome can be permanent, especially in the field.
Earlier this week, Justin Bieber’s team announced the cancellation of the singer’s three scheduled concerts. The Justin Bieber World Tour started last February.
In an Instagram video, the Canadian-born star told her fans to be patient and said she was not in the physical condition to do the next few shows.
“I hope you understand the situation. I will rest for a while and get myself back to where I was 100 percent. Then I will resume what I was born to do.”
He was scheduled to do shows in Washington and Toronto earlier this week. He planned to sing in New York and Los Angeles in the next few days. BBC
