According to a report in Saudi Gazette, the Saudi government has decided to reduce the license renewal fee for operating cinema halls. As a result, movie ticket prices are expected to drop drastically.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah is in charge of the Board of Directors of the Film Commission. He has already approved the proposal.

According to the new decision, the approval fee for permanent, temporary and special feature films will be reduced. These will be divided into three categories. Fees have been drastically reduced in every category.

From now on, permanent ‘A’ category cinema halls in cities will have to pay a fee of 25,000 Saudi Riyals. Earlier it was 2 lakh 10 thousand Saudi riyals. Likewise, the ‘B’ category has been reduced from 1 lakh 26 thousand to 15 thousand Saudi riyals. And the new fee in ‘C’ category is 5 thousand riyals. Earlier it was 84 thousand riyals.

In case of temporary cinema halls, the fee has been reduced from 1 lakh 5 thousand to 15 thousand in category ‘A’, 63 thousand to 10 thousand in category ‘B’ and 5 thousand to 5 thousand in category ‘C’.

Apart from this, film screening, screen management and other commissions have also been reduced.

Since its establishment, the Film Commission has played an important role in the development of the film industry in Saudi Arabia.
