Supreme Court Rules Yash Raj Films Not Liable For Excluding ‘Jabra’ Song From Shah Rukh Khan Film ‘Fan’

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday allowed a case filed by Yash Raj Films against the order of the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, which ordered the production house to pay Rs 10,000 including costs of a consumer case. Taka has ordered compensation due to the omission of a song from the popular Bollywood movie ‘Fan’ as compensation. A bench of Justices PS Narasingh and Arvind Kumar quashed the NCDRC’s order and said, ‘We have allowed the filing of the case’.

‘Yash Raj Films’ in the Supreme Court, they have to pay compensation?

NCDRC upheld the order given by the state commission in 2017 to pay a total compensation of Tk 10,000 to plaintiff Afrin Fatima Zaidi along with Tk 5,000 as the cost of her case. Challenging this verdict, Yash Raj Films Private Limited approached the High Court. The case was allowed to be heard there.

What exactly happened?

Who complains, when he saw the promotional video of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Fan’, he decided to go see the film with his family. The promo that Zaidi and her children saw before going to the theater included a song called ‘Jabra Fan’ Song, but after watching the movie, they realized that this song was not in the movie. In his complaint, he stated that, feeling cheated, he approached the concerned district forum through a consumer complaint and directed the petitioners to advertise with a direction that the said song was not included in the film. The complaint was dismissed by the District Forum. He then approached the Maharashtra State Consumer Redressal Commission against the production company.

Although the production company Yash Raj Films said that the complainant cannot be called a consumer and stated that the song ‘Jabra Fan’ was shown on TV channels as a promotional trailer and through press interviews it was widely and clearly disclosed to the general public beforehand that this song was in the film. will not be
