Bengali film producer and composer Asima Mukherjee passed away. He breathed his last at his residence around 5:30 am on Tuesday. He was 86 years old at the time of death. According to family sources, Asima was suffering from old age problems for a long time. The doctor said that the artist died due to heart disease.

Bengalis still remember the song ‘Bar Eka Lage Ei Andhare’ in ‘Chowrangi’ sung by Asima and sung by Manna. Asima’s other identity, she is the wife of actor Partha Mukherjee. Asima produced several successful films. Apart from ‘Chowrangi’, ‘Memsaheb’, ‘Baghbandi Khel’ are among them. Manna Dey, Hemant Mukhopadhyay, Shyamal Mitra, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Aarti Mukhopadhyay, Heimanti Shukla etc. have sung his tunes. For a long time, Asima was working as a co-officer in Kolkata and Jamshedpur Aakashbani. Apart from music director, she also gained fame as a singer. He sang duets with Hemant Mukhopadhyay and Manna in several films. His song ‘Shuvra Shankharbe’ sung by Aarti Mukhopadhyay and Shyamal Mitra in Virendrakrishna Bhadra’s ‘Mahishasuramardini’ is still remembered by the audience.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condoled Asima’s death. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of eminent musician and composer Asima Mukherjee. Asima Mukherjee also composed many popular songs. West Bengal Government awarded him ‘Sangeet Mahasamman’ in 2020. Asima Mukherjee’s demise is an irreparable loss to the music world. My sincere condolences to his relatives and fans.”

‘Chowrangi’ actress Anjana Bhowmik passed away on February 17. After that, the sad news of Asima’s death cast a shadow of grief in the world of Bengali cinema and music. Asima’s granddaughter Niharika Bhattacharya told Anandabazar Online, “Dida was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He was being treated at home for a long time. After that, this is bad news.” Asima’s last rites were completed at the Keoratala crematorium on Tuesday afternoon.
