Sylhet: The transport workers have blocked all the entrances of Sylhet city since evening to protest the case in the name of the leaders.

At around 7:30 pm on Thursday (September 22), the workers started the blockade by burning tires and leaving cars on the road.

Due to the blockade, commuters have suffered due to heavy traffic.

Eyewitnesses said that around 7:20 in the evening, the workers suddenly blocked the roads at different points of the city with slogans. Due to this, various types of vehicles get stuck in the traffic jam. Even patient-carrying ambulances are unable to ply.

Kawsar Ahmad of Tilagarh area of ​​the city said that the workers blocked the road from evening to 9:30 pm. Due to this, severe traffic jam has been created on the Sylhet-Tamabil road. Distressed commuters are seen entering the city on foot. Meanwhile, the workers protested by burning tires on the road.
Similarly, the workers also blocked roads at Akhalia, Jitu Mier Point, Chandipool, Subhanighat, Mendibagh, Humayun Rashid Chatwar, Nayasak, Shahi Eidgah, Amberkhana, Surma Market Point in the city.

It has been found that a driver has filed a case in the Dakshin Surma police station of the city in the case of vehicle vandalism during the workers’ strike a few days ago. Names of 4 labor leaders were mentioned in that case. On the other hand, the labor leaders also filed another complaint. The workers blocked the road demanding the withdrawal of this case.

Sylhet Road Transport Workers’ Union President Haji Moinul Islam’s mobile phone asked the organization’s former organizational secretary Md. Noor Mia receives the phone call.

He said that the indefinite strike was called on September 13 in protest against the police harassment and postponed in view of the assurances of the administration and Awami League leaders. But the next day, on September 14, the police filed a case with SMP’s South Surma police station with an ‘Ima Laguna’ driver expelled from the organization named Sahab Uddin. In that case, four leaders of the labor organization were named and 35 other unidentified people were accused. Haji Moinul Islam, President of Sylhet Road Transport Workers Union, President of CNG Auto-Rickshaw Workers Union 707 is among the 11-year-olds. Zakaria, South Surma Chandipool Microbus Stand President Awlad Hossain and Ima Laguna 1326 President Moin Uddin.

He said, we want the final report of the case to be given and the police commissioner to be withdrawn. Or they will continue the movement by blocking the road.
