Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has invited US President Joe Biden to visit Bangladesh. On Wednesday (September 21) local time, the Prime Minister invited Biden to the reception given in honor of the heads of state and government present in New York to attend the United Nations General Session. US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden organized the event.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. AK Abdul Momen. In response to reporters’ questions at a regular briefing at New York’s elite hotel Lott Palace on Wednesday night, the foreign minister said, “We have met, talked, photographed both, Mr. and Mrs. Biden, they welcomed her (Sheikh Hasina) warmly.” Then spoke with the honorable Prime Minister.
Although the foreign minister did not give the details of the conversation immediately, he told reporters that after the conversation, I asked him (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina); He said that ‘Yes, I have talked. I asked him to come to my country and he heard them.”
Dr. Momen also said that President Biden wanted to know whether this is Sheikh Hasina’s first participation in the United Nations session or not. In response, Sheikh Hasina told him that this time it was 18 times.
It should be noted here that on September 26, 2014, the then Vice President Joe Biden sat next to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a high-level meeting on peacekeeping operations at the UN headquarters. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is participating in various high-level meetings and programs between the UN sessions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also participated in the round table meeting organized by the ‘Champions Group of Global Crisis Response’ (GCRG) organized by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday. After the start of the war in Ukraine, he presented a five-point proposal for salvation, illustrating how much suffering the people in the country have suffered from the reciprocal sanctions of Russia and Western countries.
Besides, the Prime Minister also participated in a high-level meeting of UN-Habitat on sustainable housing. He urged the state leaders to build a world where no one will be homeless.
Sheikh Hasina will address the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly today, September 23. In this world meeting, he will present the speech of the people of Bangladesh in Bengali.
Prime Minister’s concern: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday local time expressed concern over food and energy crisis as well as financial and commercial challenges in developing countries in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Prime Minister expressed this concern during a courtesy call on World Economic Forum (WEF) Executive Chairman Professor Klaus Schwab at his hotel.
During the participation in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam briefed reporters about the Prime Minister’s activities on Wednesday.
Visit to Photo Exhibition on Padma Bridge: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the photo exhibition on the Padma Bridge at the United Nations headquarters on Wednesday. Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Sakhawat Moon told reporters that in the afternoon, the Prime Minister visited the exhibition organized at the curved wall of Level-1 of the United Nations Headquarters. A few foreign guests including UN ECOSOC President Lachezara Stova were present there at the time.
