The court denied bail to Abdul Mannan Akander, the independent chairman candidate in the forthcoming Zilla Parishad elections and former organizational secretary of Bogra city Awami League, in the case filed at Bogra Sadar police station in the case of mayhem and attempted murder.
Sadar Amli Court Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahriar Tariq gave this order on Wednesday. This was confirmed by Court Inspector Subrata Banerjee.
Earlier on September 14, railway employees beat up a railway employee named Raihan Ali while evicting hundreds of illegally constructed shops in the Kalyan Trust market car parking area. Raihan’s father, Haider Ali Sarkar, who was injured in the case of attempted murder, theft and assault, filed a case against 51 people at the Sadar police station, making Abdul Mannan Akand, the contractor of the market, the main accused. Abdul Mannan Akand appeared in Sadar Amli Court on Wednesday morning to take bail as the main accused in that case.
Abdul Mannan Akande’s lawyer Rezaul Karim Montu said, ‘A bail application was filed in the court. But the court did not approve it and ordered him to be sent to prison.
Court Inspector Subrata Banerjee said that Abdul Mannan Akand was sent to jail after receiving the court order.
Meanwhile, allegations of widespread irregularities have been made against Abdul Mannan in the name of allotment of shops in the Railway Kalan Trust Market. Hundreds of people have given him crores of rupees to get allotment of shops. But no one got the store as promised. This has created a lot of anger among the victims.
Besides, there are allegations of defaming the name of prominent people and institutions of the city through a talk show on the Facebook page of an online TV channel called Shukra TV. This has created anger against him in the Sudhi Mahal of Bogra.
Several people have complained to local journalists about this. Locals protested against Abdul Mannan Akand after reports of irregularities in the 3.5 km road carpeting work from Baria Second Bypass in Bogra Sadar to Addirgola Bazar by his contractor company Shukra Enterprises were published in various newspapers.
