World leaders call for urgent efforts to tackle food shortages

United Nations (United States), September 21, 2022 (Bass Desk): World leaders on Tuesday called for urgent efforts to tackle global food insecurity amid fears of crop failure next year. Meanwhile, the president of Ukraine blamed Russia for the crisis and demanded that the world impose ‘severe sanctions’ against Moscow. News from AFP.
On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session, the ministers of the European Union, the United States, the African Union and Spain held a meeting on the world’s food crisis. And this food shortage is seen as one of the factors in creating various conflicts and instability.
In a video link speech, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelansky directly blamed Moscow for the food crisis. Russia deliberately created this crisis to achieve their goals.
Zelanski said, “Even if some dictatorial countries forgive a country that causes a food crisis, the world must take strict action in this regard.”
He blamed Russia for various blockades and other “immoral measures” to stop exports from Ukraine. Ukraine is a major producer of food crops.
He said, ‘Russia must be held accountable for this.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Russian President Vladimir Putin was ‘trying to blackmail the international community over food.’ He ordered the invasion of Ukraine last February.
“There is no peace when there is hunger in the stomach, and without peace we cannot deal with hunger,” Sanchez said.
