Dhaka, 21 September 2022 (BSS): Women’s Asia Cup cricket will start in Sylhet on October 1. The current champion Bangladesh women’s team is entering the field on the first day of the upcoming tournament to be held in T20 format. Thailand is the opponent of Bangladesh in the first match. India and Sri Lanka will take the field in the last match of the first day.
Last night, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the full schedule of the eighth edition of the Asia Cup. This season will be held with 7 teams. Participating teams will face each other in league format.
Bangladesh girls will face Pakistan in their second match on October 3. After that, against Malaysia on October 6, India on October 8, Sri Lanka on October 10, and United Arab Emirates on October 11 in their last league match.
The top four teams in the league stage will play in the semi-finals. In the semis, the team that finished first in the league stage will play against the team that finished fourth. And the second placed team will play the third placed team. There will be two semi-finals on October 13.
The 15-day tournament will end with the final on October 15.
This year’s Asia Cup will be held at Ground One of Sylhet International Stadium and Ground Two at Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium.
The last women’s Asia Cup was held in 2008. Bangladesh won the title for the first time by defeating India by 3 wickets in the final of the seventh edition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before that, India won six consecutive tournaments.
