District council chairman candidate Abdul Mannan Akand has been sent to jail in the case of assault and attempted murder in Bogra. Sadar Amli Court Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahriar Tariq gave the order at 10 am on Wednesday.
This was confirmed by Court Inspector Subrata Banerjee.
Earlier on September 14, railway employees beat up a railway employee named Raihan Ali while evicting hundreds of illegally constructed shops in the Kalyan Trust market car parking area. Raihan’s father, Haider Ali Sarkar, who was injured on the charges of attempted murder, theft and assault, filed a case against 51 people at the Sadar police station, making Abdul Mannan Akand, the contractor of the market, the main accused. Abdul Mannan Akand appeared in Sadar Amli Court on Wednesday morning to take bail as the main accused in that case. Later, after the hearing of both sides, the court denied the bail of Abdul Mannan Akand and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Abdul Mannan Akande’s lawyer, Rezaul Karim Montu, said that a bail application was made to the court. But the court did not approve it and ordered to send him to prison.
Court Inspector Subrata Banerjee said that Abdul Mannan Akand was handed over to the jail after receiving the court order.
It should be noted that the Awami League nominated candidate for the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. He is contesting for the post of chairman against Maqbul Hossain. In the last municipal election, Abdul Mannan Akand was expelled from the Awami League for contesting for the post of mayor outside the party’s decision. At that time he was a member of Bogra city Awami League. Before that, Mannan Akand was the organizing secretary of the city Awami League.
