The court has sent Abdul Mannan Akand, the chairman candidate for Zilla Parishad election, to prison in the case of mayhem and attempted murder in Bogra.

Sadar Amli Court Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahriar Tariq gave the order at 10 am on Wednesday (September 21). This was confirmed by Court Inspector Subrata Banerjee.

Earlier on September 14, Abdul Mannan beat up a railway employee named Raihan Ali while evicting the illegally constructed shop in the parking lot of the Kalyan Trust market.

According to court sources, Raihan’s father, Haider Ali Sarkar, who was injured in the incident, filed a case (case number-894/22) against 51 people in the Sadar police station accusing Abdul Manna, the contractor of the construction of the market. Abdul Mannan appeared in Sadar Amli Court on Wednesday morning to seek bail in that case. Later, after hearing both sides, the court rejected Abdul Mannan’s bail application and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Abdul Mannan’s lawyer Rezaul Karim Montu said that a bail application was made to the court. But the court did not allow it and ordered to send Abdul Mannan to jail.

Court Inspector Subrata Banerjee said that Abdul Mannan was handed over to jail only after getting the court’s order.

Incidentally, Awami League nominated candidate for the upcoming district council elections. Abdul Mannan is contesting for the post of chairman against Maqbul Hossain. In the last municipal election, Abdul Mannan was expelled from the Awami League because he contested for the post of mayor outside the party decision. He was a member of Bogra city Awami League. Before that, Abdul Mannan was the organizing secretary of the city Awami League.
