‘Bangladesh’s continuous progress is an exemplary example for many countries in the world. This country is one of the highest borrowers of IDA loans. Bangladesh itself will formulate its economic policy, the World Bank will be there as a partner.

World Bank South Asia Vice-President Martin Reiser said these things during a meeting with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday (September 20).

Martin Reiser arrived in Dhaka on Monday (September 19) for a three-day visit. He took charge of the vice-president of the South Asia region last July 1. This is his first visit to Bangladesh.

In a bilateral meeting with the Finance Minister, Martin Reiser praised the various timely steps taken by Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to deal with Corona.

He said, on the completion of 50 years of relations, the World Bank wants to tell other countries about the success story of Bangladesh’s indomitable progress. The relationship between Bangladesh and the World Bank is very strong. The world’s leading financial institution will always be with Bangladesh.

At this time, the finance minister referred to the World Bank as one of the development partners of Bangladesh. Besides, he expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for cooperating in various development projects including education, health, electricity, disaster management sectors of Bangladesh.

The finance minister especially thanked the World Bank for the budget support during the Corona period, funding for the fight against Corona and the purchase of vaccines.

AHM Mustafa Kamal emphasized on stronger and fruitful partnership of World Bank in various initiatives of socio-economic development of the country.

He also expressed the opinion that the World Bank can exchange the experience of different countries to make Dhaka more livable.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukder, Finance Department Senior Secretary Fatima Yasmin, Economic Relations Department Secretary Sharifa Khan, Financial Institutions Department Secretary Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah and others were also present in this bilateral meeting.
